What do I do?

I need to make my module choices for next year. In my fourth year I have to pick a package of modules, and I'm deciding between the human resources one and the international business ones (the modules I pick for my 2nd year determine what I can do in my last year and so on into the rest of my life...) and I can't decide which route to go down. I have a week to decide, but I'm stuck!! Help!

Human Resources....

or International Business....

International business means you're more likely to get a job where you get to get paid to travel abroad.

Human resources means you'll have a desk job getting people to fill in forms and to arrange interviews, but that's pretty much it.

Its Alan from the CU. Dumbass site wont let me log in :(

I did the HR module in my second year and it was abslutely fantastic. Admittedly, I wanted to do the CIPD route (and am specialising in HR now), but HR gives you a lot of the essential skills that you'll need to manage people.

The thing is that HRM is more than filling out forms and arranging interviews. Firstly, even if you just do the module, theres a lecture on interview techniques which will give you a definite advantage if your going on placement.

Secondly, and this is what a lot of people forget, HRM encompanses a load of areas. Not only are there general management techniques which will be useful in your future career, but there are also elements on how to effectively manage rewards to elicit the best from people, effectively delivering training and analysis of learning styles, several HR issues such as manplanning, redundancy and so forth.

If you want, I can try and dig out my old HR notes for you to have a look at.

See you at the next CU meeting.
